In conjunction with the Operations Manager develop all procedural, environmental and relational security systems within Greenacres to include locking systems, personal alarms, nurse call system, CCTV, radio communications and fire systems.
To be responsible for advising on and renewing/creating security related policies and protocols for the Service Line when necessary.
To maintain a detailed knowledge of smart systems in LSU buildings and throughout the service line i.e. environmental controls, plant room, telephones, computers
To deliver security training to all staff within Low Secure Services
To provide specialist security advice to service line and wider Trust.
Instruction on high-risk vehicle escorts, to cover patient and public security.
Training
To formulate, develop and deliver security training to all staff.
Instruction appertaining to relational security, emphasising patient and staff relationship in respect of service security.
To deliver physical instruction in the use of security keys, locks and search training.
To deliver theoretical instruction in the care and management of security keys.
To provide campus orientation for new starters, emphasising the low secure nature of the site and staff safety in relation to patient care.
Instruction appertaining to physical security.
Instruction appertaining to procedural security.
Practical instruction on the use of current radio communication systems.
Instruction on high-risk vehicle escorts, to cover patient and public security.
Monitor and record staff attendance for all training sessions and provide documentation to training manager.
To provide a range of specialist security training programmes to other service line services as required.
To ensure service line security leads are fully trained and updated on a monthly basis.
Fire
Responsible for overseeing and implementing the fire warden system within Low Secure Services.
Responsible for monitoring, maintaining all fire systems.
Induct all new staff to the service in fire evacuation procedures.
Advise LSU staff on fire management issues as appropriate.
Develop and implement a procedure for fire and evacuation for Low Secure Unit, liaising with the Fire Officer.
Providing support and advice to ward staff in the event of alarms being activated and use of the evacuation procedure.
Development
Responsible for overseeing and implementing the fire warden system within Low Secure Services.
Delegated authority to represent service line at Fire Sub Group of the Board for LSU.
To create a system to monitor all incoming videotapes, computer discs, electrical equipment, test any suspect liquids and use drug detection dog on all incoming property.
To apply to the Ministry of Justice for Controlled Drug Licence for training purpose for Class A drugs.
Ongoing training for drug detection with the drug detection dog.
Ensure the Drug Detection Dog is continually updated with changing drug habits and trends in line with society.
To participate in risk assessments for any changes to existing buildings/structures.
To develop and facilitate training packages in room, area search procedures and practical instruction on personal searches, evidence collection and preservation.
To develop and participate in security audit and performance monitoring as required as part of a programmed approach in response to security alerts.
To liaise with police officers for site security support.
Forging links with contractors to reduce costs from outside agencies in self-managing building maintenance and security systems.
To develop an illicit substance protocol and training package liaising with outside agencies.
Plan, develop and evaluate an electronic key record and security information database.
To attend such training and updating courses appropriate to duties.
Provide advice on security and safety to new service developments.
Safety & Security
Responsible for overseeing and implementing the fire warden system within Low Secure Services.
Sound working knowledge of the safety and security systems in place within all buildings.
Drug detection dog availability to service to carry out drug searches.
Maintain records of all key clearances.
Responsible for identifying need for replacement security equipment, keys, locks, photographic equipment, illicit drug testing equipment. Advise on the commissioning of new equipment.
Co-ordinate safety and security temporary procedures during interruptions to business/major incidents
To provide appropriate support and advise in respect of major incident and contingency planning, specifically in relation to service line.
Provide appropriate support and advice re safety and security to appropriate personnel including manager on call.
Conduct investigations into breaches of security as requested.
To attend meetings relating to security on behalf of the LSU.
To gather security intelligence for the benefit of the LSU.
Plan and co-ordinate search operations within the service line.
Responsible for testing system, routine maintenance and identifying need for replacement parts for all types of security locks.
Responsible for the replacement of broken security keys on a need only basis.
Liaising with all contractors before visiting / carrying out work within the service, issues of safety and security.
To liaise with community meeting, new patient induction to the service around swipe card and safety security issues.
In discussion with relevant ward staff, be involved in appropriate security arrangements for new patient arrivals to the service.
Act as Information Asset Owner for Service Line CCTV systems.
To gather and compile evidential material for Police, professional bodies and present at formal meetings/hearings and enquiries as appropriate.
Vehicles
Responsible for overseeing and implementing the fire warden system within Low Secure Services.
To manage service vehicle, use within low secure, i.e. servicing, day-to-day bookings of vehicles, organising repairs where necessary. Responsible for vehicle maintenance, and booking for wards.
Management of parking / car parks within the LSU site and when problems are identified try to rectify.
Other Duties
To provide site support and advisory role to senior management.
To attend clinical incident reviews where security is an issue and provide advice.
Liaise and advise with the Service Manager re purchasing of security equipment.
Organising and costing for security and communication equipment.
Skills Requirement
Valid PSA licence required.
Have recent experience within the last 3 years working in Security Services or related services.
Excellent overall demeanour.
An ability to empathise with and understand the needs of others.
A strong desire to be ones best.
Excellent organisational skills / self-motivated / self-starter.
Excellent verbal, written communication, and IT skills.
Willingness to work as part of a multi-departmental team.
